It is as if we were supine or sleeping or lying down. That is the way I felt Black People were largely in the Thirties. We were apathetic, we were not militant, we were not socially conscious, we were not altogether articulate. Margaret Walker in Black World Magazine (1975), comparing black people in the thirties to the sixties when she believes consciousness grew. Wonder what she would say about us today?
