newmodelminority: wellesleymag: This is Lorraine O’Grady, Wellesley class of 1955. She is an artist and critic whose installations, performances, and texts address issues of diaspora, hybridity, and black female subjectivity. In 2006, the New York Times called her “one of the most interesting American conceptual artists around.” She was one of the artists whose work was featured in the 2010 Whitney Biennial. We sometimes hear complaints from alumnae that the only notable Wellesley grads the College highlights are Madeleine and Hillary. While we don’t necessarily agree with this, we thought it would be fun to use this space to showcase some of our other amazing alums. O’Grady is #BlackGenius.
